What this is
Every package of meat, poultry or egg product inspected by the USDA carries an establishment number in its mark of inspection. This site resolves that number: which plant it is, where, what it is approved to do, how big it is by FSIS's own size class, and whether it slaughtered or processed in the last year.
Who uses it
- Buyers and importers — which plant is behind this EST. number, and what is it approved for?
- Suppliers and service companies — the plants of one state, by size.
- Consumers and journalists — where a product was packed.
What it is not
Not the USDA, and not a grant of inspection. Recalls, inspection results and enforcement are other FSIS records. Only active establishments are in the file.
